Get to Know the Girl Behind the Sunglasses: 10 Things About Me

I started theIncogneatist a little over a year ago, and since then, a lot has changed! I wanted to take a minute to reintroduce myself!

10 Things About Me:

1. My name is Melissa (well, damn I hope you knew that). I’m 23 years old, living in NJ and working in NYC.
2. I went to the University of Delaware where I studied Marketing & Finance. I loved marketing, hated finance, somehow ended up working in communications and now in event production. It’s not a lie when people tell you your major doesn’t always dictate what you will do when you ‘grow up’.
3. I’m an only child. According to my college roommates, I’m the only “normal’ only child they know… A compliment? Maybe….haha.
4. I have a boyfriend named Jordan. We met in undergrad at UD and he is currently living in Grenada (see map here) for medical school. We have been doing the long distance life for a little over a year now, and I am lucky enough to visit him every few months. He’ll be done with school there in May and I cannot wait for him to be home! Check out my latest trip here.
5. I was a cheerleader in college. Cheerleading will always be a great memory for me! I met all of my best friends through the sport and loved being a part of my school in that way. I cheered for almost 10 years before I graduated!
6. I have two pups, Penny & Ella, and they are both rescues! Penny is a copper doxie mix with a silly attitude, and Ella is some sort of oversized chihuahua that loves to snuggle. They are best friends, but I do think they have an evil villain (Ella) and dopey sidekick (Penny) shtick going on. You’ve also probably seen them make guest appearances on my Instastories!
7. I started my blog because I wanted a creative space to share my photos, inspirations, travels and style. The blog has given me cool opportunities and introduced me to so many amazing and talented people. I hope theIncogneatist will develop and grow, just as I do.
8. When I first started blogging I really wanted to focus on DIY. I love DIY projects, but only when I really have a need for it. I also quickly learned that I hated photographing DIY projects. I like to dive in and just get to work on a project so constantly stopping to take a photo really killed my vibe. However, I do hope to continue creating DIY projects when I have more time and find a need for something!
9. That brings me to the name…. theIncogneatist is a persona I made up for myself and the blog. I like to try new things, go new places, and wear different styles. I don’t have a strict aesthetic in my life or in my closet so getting dressed is about being who I want to be on that given day. Hence the play on ‘incognito’.
10. Last minute rapid fire: I love to paint and organize! I’ve lived in Northern NJ almost all of my life, except for a few years as a kid when I lived in Colorado. I’m allergic to peanuts (and have never had a PB&J in my life). When I find a song I love I listen to it on repeat until I know every word. And, I’m outrageously sarcastic at times.

Happy Sunday everyone! I’m heading to Boston this evening for my first day of work tomorrow! I’ve never been to Boston in my adult life (and I’m not sure how much free time I will have), but I would love any suggestions you guys have!
