Whether you’re just starting your plant collection or always on the go, these plants are low maintenance and require minimal care to thrive in your home!
1. POTHOS PLANT
Pothos are highly adaptable and come in a variety of colors and patterns (Marble Queen, Neon, and Golden to name a few)! They prefer bright, indirect light, but will tolerate medium and low light. Water your pothos when the top 2 inches of soil are dry and look out for yellow leaves – this is often a sign of overwatering (but can also be a natural occurrence when the seasons change!).
2. ALOE VERA
Aloe’s unique spiked leaves stand out against softer, leafy plants (like the Pothos I mentioned above). They prefer bright, indirect sunlight. Aloe Vera is a succulent and prefers dry soil, make sure you allow this plant to dry out completely between watering (usually every 2-3 weeks).
3. MONSTERA DELICIOSA
It may not look it, with their dramatic and intricate leaves, but Monstera’s are a very beginner friendly plant. They can grow just about anywhere in your home. Bright indirect light will allow your Monstera to grow more quickly and with more fenestrations (the splits that occur in mature leaves), but can tolerate low light. Water when the top 2” of soil are dry and make sure to saturate the soil completely.
4. SNAKE PLANT
After the ZZ Plant, the Snake plant may be one of the heartiest on this list. They prefer medium to bright indirect light, but can tolerate low light or direct sun. Water once the soil is completely dry (every 2-3 weeks). Frequent travelers, this one’s for you! The snake won’t wilt or brown if it’s left unwatered for an extended period of time.
5. DRACENA (OR CORN PLANT)
The largest on this list, the Dracena feels more like a tree than a houseplant. My Dracena has grown over 7-feet tall in just 2 years and doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon. This plant requires medium to bright, indirect sunlight, but can survive in low light situations. Saturate your dracena fully every two weeks or when the top 2 inches of soil are completely dry.
6. PRICKLY PEAR CACTUS
The Prickly Pear Cactus is one of the few on this list that prefer full sun and bright sunlight. Water every 2-2.5 months when the soil is completely dry.
7. ZZ PLANT
It doesn’t get more low maintenance than the ZZ plant! This is one of the few houseplants that can live in very low light and, while not ideal, can go months without water. This plant is highly adaptable and tough!
8. PILEA
Pilea’s prefer bright, indirect light, but can live in low light (you’ll notice the leaves turn a darker shade of green). Water once the top 2 inches of soil are dry.
