Another room (err, I mean corner of the apartment) done! I just finished redecorating my desk space and I couldn’t be happier with how it came out! I was never planning on putting much design effort into my office area, but after visiting the Dormify showroom in NYC, I left feeling inspired to create a functional + chic desk area for myself!

I joke that my “office” is really just a small corner of our apartment, but I am SO lucky to even have a dedicated work space! Most apartments we looked at could really only accommodate one desk, and at the time, that was all we thought we needed…
Looking back, that was insane. I work from home pretty often and I need a space to work on my blog. Plus, Jordan is still in med school and has to study for tests (yikes!). The thought of us sharing now is totally whack!
It wasn’t until we saw this apartment that the dream of having not one, but TWO desks in one space might actually be possible!
During move in last August, Jordan was sweet enough to give me the corner spot! It’s truly one of the best spots in our whole apartment. I get to nestle myself between two walls of floor to ceiling windows with my favorite view 🙂 Our apartment faces west and we are lucky enough to see the colorful NYC sun set over the building tops every night.
In keeping with the rest of the apartment, I stuck with the same design elements –
- Mid-Century Styling
- Glass/Lucite + Marble Materials
- Gold/Rose Gold Accents
- Geometric Shapes
Let me break down how this bright and warm space came together…
FURNITURE
I found my desk on (get ready for it)…AMAZON! I love this desk for a few reasons –
1. The glass top – makes it feel almost like it’s floating between the windows. It’s also one of the more unique writing desks I saw in this price range ($100-150). The minimal footprint doesn’t block the windows and keeps the continuity going through the entire living room space.
2. Open design, middle shelf = major storage. I love being able to see everything on my desk, w/o it cluttering my desktop.
3. Available in Black + Walnut – Jordan has the same desk with a black shelf instead of white. This is the only wooden item in my place that is pine, but it wasn’t until JUST NOW, that I found it in a walnut finish as well. Kicking myself right now….
Writing Desks
My chair…well, this was a hand-me-down from Jordan. He ordered it when we first moved and ended up disliking it. So, it became mine. It’s not particularly “cute”, but it is comfortable. I added this braided pillow to make it a little more comfortable and less, well, boring.
I’ve been browsing some new options on Amazon, but it seems silly to get rid of a perfectly good chair. Here’s what’s in my basket –
ACCESSORIES + STORAGE
For the last few months I’ve had only the bare necessities on my desk (chair, pen holder, and a few containers for supplies).
With a little help from Dormify, I was able to add the finishing touches to my office space!
You might be thinking, “isn’t Dormify for…dorms?”. Dormify is the go-to destination for the chicest dorm decor, and they have an incredible selection of trendy decor & storage options for small spaces (aka NYC apartments).
I was set on finding low profile, chic and functional storage items that wouldn’t disrupt our city view or clash with the rest of our apartment decor. I love the acrylic pen holder and file organizer I found at Dormify!
I found my lamp and gold storage baskets at World Market! If y0u are NYC based, there is a small World Market store on 6th Ave in Flatiron. I actually bought both of these in store (crazy). I was really impressed by the selection and merchandizing of the store! If I didn’t have to take the subway back to Brooklyn, I probably would have left with quite a few more items…
How cool is this LED Eye Light! & this watercolor by my talented cousin, Morgan! Check out her IG shop @waywardwatercolor
The last thing I added was a small storage cart under my desk. If you’ve been following my IG stories, you saw this basic shelf transform from ugly grey to a light gold (which fits the space SO much better).
I use this for incoming/outgoing mail and to store new products I’m ready to try! I used to let everything pile up on top of my desk, needless to say, this is working out much better.
………..
I couldn’t be happier with how my desk came out! I’m so much more motivated to keep my area tidy and organized now that I have this sweet set up 🙂
Aside from the desk + chair, this was a pretty inexpensive project! I found everything at Amazon, World Market, and the Container Store. A big thank you to Dormify for supplying me with the cutest desk accessories!

Hi Hannah! Thank you so much 🙂
I really love your space!!! ❤️ About the chair, i have one of those Eames white plastic chair and believe me when i say my entire body suffers with it. Your office chair is 100 times better! 😁

Thank you so much! I sit here so much it had to be comfortable!
I like the concept of this desk and space. I take it that you do not use a mouse for your laptop? I do graphic design and using a mouse even with a Mac is important. Is there a way to have colored glass?
One other question, where do you plug in your laptop? I don’t see any wires at all, even with the desk lamp. It would be interesting to see a picture of your office space at night.

Hi – I do not use a mouse and this is the glass that comes with the desk. I guess you could DIY it, but I’m not sure how structurally sound that would be (or how easy it would be to remove the existing glass). I have seen an opaque glass top desk at Ikea (called the Glasholm).
There are usually cord, but this is a styled shoot so of course I had the space looking as clean and decluttered as possible! There is a power strip mounted under the desk, but it’s not visible in these photos.
i saw these pictures when i was looking online for a desk. so pretty! i ordered this desk because it looks so nice

Yay! You’re going to love it 🙂
I love love love the space. My daughter found the desk on Amazon prior to me finding your article. I told her it wouldn’t work because I needed drawers. Needless to say I had to apologize to her after viewing the possibilities in your design. The desk, lamp and trays will be delivered over the next few days.
Question: I tried finding the storage cart refinish on your IG but was unsuccessful. That is the only thing standing in the way of my Amazon order. 🙂
Please point me in the right direction.
Thanks so much.
PS I am super excited about work again.

Hi! The middle storage is great! Unfortunately, the 3 tier shelf from the container store is no longer available. As far as refinishing, I used a gold spray paint to coordinate better with the rest of the storage baskets. Hope this helps! X, Melissa
Ok. Thank you.
