10 Houseplants to Decorate This Spring

10 Houseplants to Decorate This Spring easy to maintain houseplants low maintenance beginner gardening home decor

My favorite thing about houseplants is that they keep your home colorful and lively when there’s nothing but grey outside! Spring is the perfect time to add new houseplants to your space and watch them flourish!

Many of these can be found online at sites like the Sill, Bloomscape, and House Plant Shop, but are also common at your local garden center, city bodega, or home improvement store (like Lowe’s).

10 Houseplants to Buy This Spring:

1. Monstera Deliciosa

The Monstera Deliciosa is known for its large split leaves. They thrive in bright to medium indirect light and require water every 1-2 weeks with soil drying completely between waterings. This eye-catching mid-sized plant grows out more than up and is perfect for a wide open corner of your home.

2. Silver Satin Pothos

As a member of the Pothos family, the Silver Satin is easy to maintain and difficult to kill! Adaptable to various lighting conditions, this plant look great dangling down bookshelf or in a hanging planter.

3. Dracena (or Corn Plant)

If you’re looking to fill a tall, narrow space, this tree for you! My Dracena has grown over 6-feet tall in just 2 years and doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon. This plant is low-maintenance and does well with regular weekly waterings.

4. Tradescantia Nanouk

This purple and green beauty will catch you eye every time you turn the corner! The Tradescantia Nanouk’s unique colors pop against a plain white wall and makes a unique addition to your plant collection. This is a slightly more difficult to care for plant and will take some trial and error to find the perfect spot in your home!

5. Bird of Paradise

Another extra large plant that will certainly make a statement in your home! The BOP’s massive palm like leaves can grow to over 3-feet long and get larger as the plant matures. The BOP likes bright, indirect light and regular deep waterings.

6. Aloe Vera

Aloe’s unique spiked leaves stand out against softer, leafy plants (like the Pothos I mentioned above). Display in a grouping on a book shelf or stand alone in a double glass vase to support the growing spikes!

7. Prickly Pear Cactus

It doesnt get more low-maintenance than this! The Prickly Pear Cactus makes a beautiful floor plant – water every 2-3 months and leave in a bright sunny spot.

8. Anthurium

This flowering plant produces bright pink, red, and purple flowers every 2-3 months! Place on your desk top for a cheery pop of color.

9. Fiddle Leaf Fig

FLF’s get a bad rep for being difficult to maintain, but I’ve not had issues with mine since bring it home last year. It may take some time to produce new growth (and then leave you hanging again for another few months), but this tree has the potential to grow quite large! Position beside a large piece of furniture like a media console, sofa or dining table.

10. String of Pearls

String of Pearls thrive in bright light! Place in a sunny windows or hanging planter and watch the bead like leaves cascade. This succulent is dought resistant, but be sure to deeply water once the top layer of soil drys.
