After being dragged onto the boat leaving Capri, we were en route to Venice (it’s much easier to leave a beautiful place when you know you’re going to another)! At this point in the trip I was nearly fluent in Italian…haha kidding but I wish! I felt so cool just saying ciao and grazie on a regular basis. I wish I knew more of the language, but nearly everyone spoke English, and if not, simply pointing seemed to work.
We arrived in Venice Sunday afternoon and headed down the Grand Canal via water taxi. The Grand Canal is like nothing I had ever seen before! The beautiful palaces and ornately decorated buildings seem to just float on the water, and instead of cars, boats and gondolas crowd the water. Such a unique site to see!
To start, we did a brief tour of Saint Mark’s Square and then set out on a gondola ride through less crowded canal paths. The tide was almost at its peak when we started and the gondoliers had no easy task squeezing underneath dozens of bridges. It’s unbelievable how drastic the change between high and low tide can be. The square floods, the docks all surge above the shore line, and the bottom floor of the buildings look nearly filled. I couldn’t imagine living this unique lifestyle.

We were so lucky to have the chance to visit the Island of Burano in the Venetian Lagoon. Burano is famous for its brightly colored houses and I absolutely loved every minute of being there. The moment you pull up you can’t help but smile at all the colors! Burano has no hotels on the island so it is very quiet and not nearly as crowded as Venice itself.
Pulling up to Burano! Why can’t every city be this colorful…
I don’t know what these are called, but I’ve never had a cookie that you dip in wine! So yummy!

My mom captured this sweet picture of my Grandma and I. Mimi, I could never have done this trip without you and I am so thankful that you were with me every step of the way! Love you!
Cheers to the trip of a lifetime. Leaving Italy was so bittersweet, but I’ll never forget the memories we made while we were here.
Thank you all for following along- stop back to see where I’ll be heading next!
